R.O.C. Pony Express July 14, 2017
Joined the Raptor Offroad Community (ROC) on their longest trip to date - a 3-day adventure following the Pony Express Trail from Salt Lake City, Utah to Carson City, Nevada! This event covered 811 miles of various terrain. Everything from switch-back mountain trails topping out at 8,980 feet to smoother-than-silk dirt roads for high speed cruising. Attractions included the Simpson Springs Pony Express Historic Station, Gandy Warm Springs, Kalamazoo Summit, Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park, Luna Crater & Luna Crater Dry Lakebed, Tonopah Test Range Airport historic WWII hangars, and the Historic Orizaba Gold & Silver Mine. This was the first time I had ever been to the state of Utah, and I fell in love with it's abundance of wild Mustang bands. The weather was HOT with daytime highs averaging around 99°F with scattered showers and relative humidity. This was the first time I ever had to deal with "heat haze" interfering with my photos, which makes certain focal ranges impossible to get sharp. ROC, once again, provided an amazing trip, and all 21 rigs made it to the end. For more information on the club or upcoming events, check out http://raddrives.com/offroad/index.html.
